Ordering your portrait is a straightforward process involving 3 easy steps.
Before placing your order it is important for me to see the photograph I will be working from (see more about this below). You can email a digital copy of your photograph, or send originals in the post - they will always be returned to you with your finished portrait.
Step 1 - Choosing a photograph
Firstly, we need to select a photograph. The better the quality of the photograph, the more detail I have to work from and the better the finished portrait. Ideally I need to work from clear photographs, taken in a good light where you can see unique characteristics such as eyes. If you are planning to take a photograph especially for your commission, here are a few tips to bear in mind:
- Ideally take the photo outside or near a window (with your back to it) to avoid the use of a flash which can cause 'red eye'
- If it is a sunny day, take the photo with your back to the sun with your subject in light shadow. Strong sunlight can blanch out details and cast strong shadows which disguise detail
- Try and take your photo as close as possible to give the maximum amount of detail for me to work from
- Take your photo at eye level where possible - this makes for a much nicer composition (so if you are photographing a pet or a small child, kneel down!)
Once we have agreed on your requirements and I have checked the photograph I will be working on, I will ask for a 50% non refundable deposit based on the agreed price. This can be paid in cash, by cheque or by debit or a credit card securely on line via Pay pal.
Once I have received the initial deposit, I will begin. I will send regular email progress updates along with the option of seeing 2 photographs of the work, once when about 3/4 though and again when complete. This is optional as I find many clients prefer not to see the progress pictures and wait until they receive the portrait!
Once complete, I will ask for the remaining balance which can be paid in cash, by cheque or by debit or a credit card securely on line via Pay pal. Then I will package your portrait and dispatch it via a reputable carrier.
Please contact me if you would like to order a portrait. You can also take a look at my sizes and prices page for more information but I am happy to go through this when looking at your portrait requirements.
